General Questions

To find answers to your general questions about Les Chèvres de Montagne's outdoor women's community.

What is Les Chèvres de Montagne?

Les Chèvres de Montagne is the largest outdoor community of women in Canada. We are a non-profit organization (NPO) that organizes unique events that bring like-minded women together to live magical moments and create friendships. Our goal is to facilitate access to different outdoor activities, share best practices, gain confidence and, most importantly, have fun. Far from the pressure of performance, we hope to provide opportunities for more women to start or progress in one or more outdoor sports.

Why do Les Chèvres de Montagne specifically target women?

Les Chèvres de Montagne was created to get more women into the field and to provide access to group activities for women. We want to facilitate access to sports and activities that may be intimidating or require technical knowledge or a social network. It is proven that women learn differently than men and this factor is even more pronounced in the outdoors. We, therefore, create a learning context that is adapted, based on pleasure and far from the pressure to perform. We focus on safe supervision in an ideal learning environment.

What types of events does Les Chèvres de Montagne organize?

We offer a wide variety of outdoor activities; rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, gravel biking, canoeing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, fat biking, cross-country skiing, ice climbing and winter camping (and much more!). In addition, we offer a variety of outdoor sports related trainings so that women can be better equipped and progress. Events are offered in many different formats, from weekly clubs to full weekends and even trips. Our strength is that we offer many different types of outdoor activities for women that cater to different skill levels. Please feel free to contact us at info@leschevresdemontagne.com

What is included in the price of my registration for a Chèvres activity?

Les Chèvres de Montagne activities are supervised by professionals and outdoor guides trained in the chosen discipline and equipped with wilderness first aid training. Activities are generally offered in a turnkey format to limit all the hassle, stress and planning elements associated with an outdoor activity. The proportion of costs related to activities varies slightly from one event to another.

Do you have a sustainable development policy?

Do events take place despite unfavourable weather?

Most of our events are held rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather compromising safety (thunderstorms, intense cold, harsh winds, etc.), you will receive an email by noon the day before the event. If there is a communicated rescheduled date, you agree to be available.

What age group are the activities for?

Women of all ages are welcome; the important thing is to be motivated and curious. As a guide, the average age at events is between 25 and 45. Don't worry; we want as many women as possible to feel challenged by the community, no matter how old she is. If in doubt, write to us at info@leschevresdemontagne.com

What equipment do I need?

You can check the materials section on the event page of the event you are registered for to find a specific list catered to your activity. You will also receive the list by email two weeks before the event. Do you have all the necessary materials? As we aim to introduce you to different outdoor sports, we aim to avoid making you buy equipment.

Where can I find the photos taken at the event?

Photos taken during events are posted on the Les Chèvres de Montagne Facebook page. There is usually a 2-week delay between the end of the event and the publication of the photos.

I am not sure if I have the level for the activity. How do I know?

In most of the activities, you are divided into groups according to the fitness and skill level that you will have specified in the form sent before the event. They are, therefore, mostly accessible to all. For more details or questions about a particular event, you can always write to us at info@leschevresdemontagne.com

Do you have a vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free option for food at events?

We can accommodate a vegetarian diet without any problem, just indicate it in your health form. We can also accommodate a vegan or gluten-free diet for an additional fee (e.g. $100 for a weekend), simply indicate this in your health form. Write to us for any other questions or restrictions at info@leschevresdemontagne.com

Do most participants bring a friend? Does everyone in Les Chèvres know each other?

You don't need to bring a friend to Chèvres events. There are always new participants, whether alone or with a friend, at the events. Nothing is intimidating about it: one of the fundamental goals of Les Chèvres is to bring women together in the outdoors to create a social network with whom to enjoy outdoor sports.

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

Please take a look at our Refund Policy section. Les Chèvres de Montagne activities are non-refundable (unless otherwise stated).

Please note that various costs have already been incurred by the time we publish an event. It is, therefore difficult to refund participants who have a change in schedule.

When is programming announced?

Our winter programming is generally available in late October for Daring and Adventurous members and in early November for all. Our summer programming is usually available in early March for Daring and Adventurous members and in mid-March for all. *Subject to change.

I have COVID-19 symptoms. What is the policy?

Symptomatic participant: If a participant has symptoms of Covid-19, we encourage her to contact us promptly to request a refund (15% hold on Paypal and administration fees) or credit within 24 hours of the event. Proof of a positive test is required for reimbursement.

Preventive measures in the field: we stay current on public health standards and requests. We make sure to follow and apply these recommendations with our guide teams.

Refund policy

We depend on Mother Nature for our outdoor activities. And sometimes you have a special situation. Check out our refund policies for more information.

Reimbursement

Please note that cancelling your registration will result in considerable financial loss and time for the organization. As soon as an event is available on our website, many resources have already been mobilized (booking venues, equipment, mobilizing the team, contracts with the guides and schools involved). In order to respect the work of all concerned, we cannot cancel an event with just a few weeks' notice (guides and our team plan their schedules in advance, as it's their work and their annual income that's at stake) if several people withdraw. Also, the costs incurred to promote the event are already incurred when the event is published on the website. This means that the official start of an event is when it is released and put online, and not simply on the date of the start on the ground.

For these reasons, please note that for logistical reasons, we do not issue refunds.

Cancellation policies

If an event is cancelled by the Les Chèvres de Montagne organization (extreme weather, extraordinary reason), participants will be contacted and informed of the options available to them (full refund or credit with discount on a new registration). A 15% non-refundable fee will be retained to cover transaction and administration costs.

RESERVATION AND CANCELLATION CONDITIONS WITH ECO PLEIN AIR for the weekend at Vallée Bras-du-Nord: If conditions are extreme: rain and no snow, we will maintain the activity and offer outdoor sports alternatives. Our organizations cannot afford to reimburse 100% of the total cost of the weekend and chalet rentals. By being open to adapting to a multi-sport weekend in the event of extreme weather (winter hiking, walking with crampons - the area is full of incredible itineraries), you'll enjoy a memorable all-inclusive stay.

Transfers and registration exchanges

A full refund is not possible more than 30 days before the start of the event. However, you may transfer your registration and write to us at info@leschevresdemontagne.com, mentioning the name and e-mail address of the person to whom you have transferred or sold your place. **You are responsible for transferring any questionnaires to be filled out and information emails received.**
